Privacy Policy & Data Standards

Last updated: October 14, 2026 · Effective for all visitors, listed open-source creators, and paid sponsors.

1. Information We Collect

LaunchIndex operates as a developer software directory and launch radar. We collect minimal personal data:

  • Public Repository & Telemetry Data: Public GitHub stars, forks, open issues, SPDX license headers, Docker Hub pull counts, and RSS release tags. This information is already public on third-party host platforms.
  • Founder & Maker Account Information: Email addresses and verification handles submitted when claiming a project profile, ordering launch distribution packages, or configuring GitHub badge embeds.
  • Payment & Billing Data: All financial transactions are securely processed via our third-party Merchant of Record provider (Whop). LaunchIndex never sees or stores full credit card numbers or billing credentials.
  • Technical Logs: IP addresses and browser user-agent headers collected temporarily for fraud prevention, rate limiting on community upvotes, and server diagnostics.

2. How We Use Collected Data

We use collected data solely to deliver our directory and syndication services:

  • Displaying up-to-date repo telemetry, license types, and deployment models on software profiles.
  • Broadcasting new release announcements to our X (Twitter) feed, LinkedIn developer channels, and Friday Launch Radar newsletter.
  • Calculating weekly rolling launch cohorts and community upvote leaderboards.
  • Generating machine-readable Schema.org and Model Context Protocol (MCP) data feeds for AI agents and developer tool search engines.

3. No Tracking Cookies or Cross-Site Profiling

LaunchIndex respects developer privacy. We do not use invasive third-party tracking pixels (such as Meta Pixel or Google Ads remarketing). Any analytics deployed are lightweight, privacy-focused, and cookie-free, in accordance with GDPR and ePrivacy guidelines.

4. Founder Rights & Profile Deletion

Open-source project maintainers and commercial software founders hold full rights over their presence on LaunchIndex. If you wish to claim your profile, correct inaccurate repository telemetry, update your project descriptions, or request removal from our index, please email privacy@launchindex.io.
